I have never Petitioned the Universe before. Have you? I’ve prayed to God many times, mostly to ask forgiveness (raised Catholic – even bad thoughts not acted on or spoken are a sin) or to give me the (strength, grace, composure, calm) to handle whatever it is (turbulence on airplanes mostly). So, like any normal person who is trying something she’s never done before, I Googled it.
One of the first Petitions to the Universe I found was Sadie Calvano‘s. She plays Violet on the CBS sitcom, Mom. Her real-life mom kept mentioning the idea of Petitioning the Universe from Chapter 9 in Eat Pray Love.
“Where did you get the idea that you aren’t allowed to petition the universe with prayer? You are part of this universe…You’re a constituent—you let your feelings be known. So put your opinion out there. Make your case. Believe me—it will at least be taken into consideration.” – Elizabeth Gilbert
So Calvano blogged her Petition to the Universe. In it she asks the universe to create the opportunities she needs to flourish as an artist. Two months later she posted a blog about being cast as Violet in Mom. Perhaps it was her prior tenacity and determination that won her the role. Petitioning the Universe didn’t prevent her from getting the role; and, who knows? Maybe it helped.
The rest of the first page of my Google search turned up Love Psychics and actual petitions. When I searched “How To Petition the Universe,” Google responded with a full page of spell casting. I prefer Gilbert’s and Calvano’s approaches.
So here goes:
To all the good forces in the universe, I humbly ask that I have meaningful work to do or work that I can imbue with meaning. Over the past year or so, I’ve found that of the different vocations I have tried on that people seem to appreciate my writing skills most. Therefore, I ask for the persistence and perserverence to keep writing this blog in the hopes that it inspires and serves others. Please also help me find other publications and places to share my work in.
Thank you for your consideration. Also, thank you for all the wonders and wonderfulness present in my life right now.
