So the coronavirus is trying to cancel all the Saint Patrick’s Day fun, eh? Celebrations have been cancelled in several cities: Boston, Chicago, Dublin, Philadelphia, Denver, and more.
It’s hard to think of any force that can stop the Irish from celebrating. Back in 2002, I was at a Warped Tour concert on Harriet Island. A thunderstorm bore down when Flogging Molly, an Irish-American Celtic punk band, took the stage. At the beginning of their set lightening flashed behind the stage and thunder rumbled. The lead singer responded to the thunder with a shrug. “We haven’t pissed God off that much today.”
Rain poured on us. Yet, we stayed. Now, a quiet virus is cancelling St. Patrick’s Day events?
The coronavirus isn’t going to keep me from celebrating, or traveling with family. Maybe this year it’s best to avoid unnecessary crowds. After all, St. Patrick’s Day is best celebrated with food and drink. I love making homemade recipes that delight, so I might as well stay home. How about you?
