I know. It’s not even Thanksgiving yet. However, I was just in the Von Maur department store in Rosedale Center where a man was playing holiday music on the grand piano. As far as I’m concerned, that means holiday shopping season is here. Are you ready for it?
If you can, I definitely recommend paying Von Maur a visit. It’s a classy, well-merchandised shopping experience with kind and helpful staff. The gifts mentioned below can all be fetched online. I like to do a mix of in-store and online shopping for the holidays. How about you?

These Boots Were Made for Shopping
They were also made for walking on the cobblestone streets of London and Paris. During our honeymoon, there were days that my husband and I logged more than 27,000 steps. According to my fitbit, I took 169,416 steps on our trip. I took 95% of those steps in Sam Edelman Women’s Penny Riding Boots (https://amzn.to/33OgK2Q). Investing the time to find the just right pair of boots for me, ones that hit the sweet spot between quality and cost with great reviews for comfort was well worth every minute spent. No blisters. My ankles and feet didn’t ache. I didn’t trip or stumble.
Mistletoe-Ready Kissable Lips
Fun (and hilarious-to-me) Fact: My husband cares about my lipstick. When I tested a new lipstick brand out, he noticed. “I’ve never seen your other lipstick do that,” he said, pointing out dry flakes on my lips. When I suggested that I might wear a different lipstick on our wedding day, he cringed a bit. “I like the kind you usually wear.” My lips are happiest with my JAFRA lipstick and my husband’s happiest with my lips when I wear JAFRA lipstick (or when my lips are natural). On our wedding day, sightseeing in London & Paris, and on a fancy evening out, I wore my JAFRA lipstick. In every picture in this post, I’m wearing JAFRA Royal Luxury lipstick.
It’s the Royal Jelly RJx technology JAFRA uses that keeps my lips hydrated and nourished. Right now (Nov. 16th, 2019 – the end of the holiday season), JAFRA is offering 2 for $22 on their Royal Luxury Lipsticks along with two cute candy stripe lipstick holder ornaments. May I recommend gifting one and getting the other?

Dramatic Lashes Drama-Free Mascara
Maybe it’s to do with being a certain age (ahem, 40-something), or maybe I just lacked the awareness, but many mascaras are full of the wrong kind of drama. They slink beneath my eyes and make it look like I’m an emotional wreck. I found one that keeps the drama on the lash: Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara #01 Extreme Black Limited Edition (https://amzn.to/2qQnGOA). I’m wearing it in every picture of this post.
Confession: I’m terrible at remembering when I bought mascara, so I probably hold onto full-sized ones far past their prime. Do you? Mascara should be thrown away after three months of use. To solve the issue for myself, I’ve started buying my mascara in travel size. Click this link for a set of 3 travel size Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara. Then, you can gift one and keep two…
Quick technique tips to prevent mascara from going where it shouldn’t:
- Put eye creams on at night. Not in the morning beneath makeup. This is only a rule if you have a tough time with traveling mascara.
- Curl your lashes.
- Apply mascara last.
Erase it off.
I love removing my makeup with the soft, eco-friendly, and effective MakeUp Eraser Mini (https://amzn.to/2KvTQWH). It’s great for travel, because then there’s no need for a liquid makeup remover. I plan to stuff a stocking or two with it.
Health is one of the best gifts of all…
Good nutrition is a beauty basic and building block that is often taken for granted in the current convenience culture. Taking the time to eat healthy and lean foods is so good for anyone on your list. After eating in his Bread Street Kitchen restaurant, I decided to buy Gordon Ramsay’s Healthy, Lean & Fit Cookbook (https://amzn.to/2NSUUWv) and it is fantastic!
Many cookbooks on my shelf are staring at me right now, wondering when I might open them up and put them to use. I want to tell some of the books, “it’s not you, it’s me.” The others though…it’s totally them. They hold the recipes that the ideal version of me would love to work through and make. Their recipes include ingredients that aren’t easy to source, or require gadgets I don’t have and there are more important things for me to buy…like cookbooks I can’t use.
Gordon Ramsay’s Healthy, Lean & Fit is in my kitchen on my cookbook stand being used. It’s filled with instructions I can follow, ingredients I can find, and requires basic kitchen equipment. I’ve only had it for a couple of weeks and have made: Raspberry Chia Seed Jam, Toasted Oat Soda Bread, Quinoa Stuffed Mushrooms with Baked Eggs, Californian “Fried” Chicken Sandwiches, and Flank Steak with Rosemary Chimichurri.
I plan to make Crunchy Chickpeas, Carrot Cake Macaroons, Fig Bars, Seed and Nut “Granola” Bars, and Pita Chips Red Pepper Dip very soon. Maybe I’ll manage to make them all before this weekend is through. As I do, I’ll put pictures and reviews on my Instagram @40fitnstylish.
