2019 Spring Fashion That’s Frugal(ish) and Travel Ready

May 2, 2019 Comments Off on 2019 Spring Fashion That’s Frugal(ish) and Travel Ready

Spring Fashion is all about the florals, pretty and proper looks, and urban safari adventures this year. Mix looks up with some prints, stripes, and pops of color for a well-rounded wardrobe. Updating your look  doesn’t have to cost a lot. Spend a little extra on a few key pieces and enjoy the hunt for the rest.

Spring Fashion Travel Achievement

It was 49 degrees Fahrenheit when we arrived at the Minneapolis airport before 6 a.m. last Friday. Expected temperature when we landed in Dallas? Nearing 70 with an afternoon high of 79.

The achievement? Apart from being a little chilly in the Park N’ Go lot on our way to the Minneapolis airport, I was comfortable all day. I felt fashionista the whole time.

40 Fit N Stylish at Airport Betsy Johnson Travel Suitcase

I’d just like to add that I LOVE my Betsey Johnson carry-on suitcase! It’s received smiles and compliments from TSA agents, shuttle bus drivers, and fellow travelers. When I do check it, I spot it right away in baggage claim. Bonus! I found Stitch Fix pants that match both the bag and the top I was wearing when I was at Clothes Mentor looking for capris.

Downeast Vintage Denim Jacket: $42.50 (Member Price), $50 (Regular Price) Thrive at the Rochester Athletic Club

Pink Liverpool Capris for Stitch Fix: $11.20 Clothes Mentor

Betsey Johnson Lips Expandable Hardside Luggage: $87.89 (Sale), $250 (Regular Price) at Macy’s.

This is the top beneath the denim jacket:

Vineyard Vines Silk Blouse from ThredUP

It’s Vineyard Vines from their Derby line (2018’s I think). I bought it with the tags still on from ThredUP. I paid $28.80. The original price was $119. Have I mentioned before how much I love shopping consignment? Click here to save $10 off your first ThredUP purchase.

My airport outfit sans denim jacket was perfect for two rounds of golf games at TopGolf. Fun fact: an older gentleman watching with his grandson said I must’ve played college golf. Some of my swings were pretty darn good…for a driving range type of situation. I didn’t start playing the game until my mid-20s and it’s often not been pretty. Tears have been shed. Clubs have been thrown. On a real course. Not at TopGolf.

Melissa McNallan Hutchins BBQ Product Tags wearing Primp, Downeast Style, and Target

This is one of my new favorite outfits! I wore it to Hutchins BBQ and Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary. I accessorized it with the shoes and purse below:

Spring 2019 Accessories DryGoods, DSW, Tommy Hilfiger, Target

Outfit Details: Basket Purse from Dry Goods ($39), Jumpsuit from Primp ($60), Tommy Hilfiger shoes from DSW ($59.99).

Hutchins BBQ opened in 1978 — the same year I was born. Their lean brisket and broccoli salad are MMM-mazing! Both times that I’ve been there, there’s been a line out the door and about a 45-minute wait that’s worth it! I love their sauces too.

I switched to my white Nike Airs before we went to Heard. While there, my fiance (Chris) and I took our grandson on a trail to get to the Wetland Boardwalk. Once there, we watched turtles and encountered a 3-foot long snake. Adorable sandals would have been a total faux-pas.

Other Spring Fashion Wins

Before we left for Dallas, Chris and I went to see Love, Loss, & What I Wore performed by Absolute Theatre Company on Thursday night.

I stopped by Images Salon to get a blowcomb done by Michelle before the show and before our weekend away. My hair is a mess without Michelle. I see her about once a week, maybe more. Need hair help? Check out these Spring 2019 Hairstyle Do’s and Don’ts.

Melissa McNallan ready to attend Love, Loss, and What I Wore

Sometimes shopping one’s own closet does wonders. The skirt is a LuLaRoe that I bought at a friend’s party two years ago, the scarf was given to me a few months back by another friend, and the top I bought on sale this winter from Express. This combination is about as Boho-chic as I ever get.

Dresses for Spring

The C and the M are not for Clothes Mentor, even though the two dresses below are totally from Clothes Mentor. The maxi print dress is by Banana Republic Factory ($16) and is the dress my friend Mariah totally encouraged me to try on while we were shopping together. The LBD is by Calvin Klein ($14). It’s the Chris hook and the Melissa hook. I bought them from Anthropologie.

Two Dresses from Clothes Mentor: Banana Republic and Calvin Klein

I wore the maxi dress to our wedding wine and dinner tasting at Four Daughter’s Winery & Vineyard and felt fabulous! We have so many decisions to make, yet I’m not stressed. Why would I stress? It’ll all be great.

Casual Spring

Some days are less glamorous than others. I still want to feel pretty and wear pops of fun color. Life’s too short for leggings and sweatshirts imho. Again, on these looks, I get by with a little help from sales, consignment, and friends. Fashion can be fun and frugal.
