So, I’ve Got Some Resolutions…

January 3, 2018 Comments Off on So, I’ve Got Some Resolutions…

Are you excited that the holidays are over and the New Year is here? I am!

It’s Time for Resolution(s)!

It’s the season for contemplating directions and goals. A time to progress. Progressing is one of my favorite things to do. I like it even more than wrapping presents (and I love wrapping presents).

My 2018 is all about committing and conquering. I’ve found some of my favorite wise guides to help me find my way through it.

My Current Favorite Wise Guides:

On New Year’s Day, I started listening to Grit by Angela Duckworth. There are so many a-ha moments in it that I had to get the hard copy. I just picked it up from the Rochester Public Library this afternoon.

Another favorite guide of mine is Mel Robbins. She helped me get over my fear of flying in 2017.  Since I read her book, The 5 Second Rule, Chris (my fiancee) has not had to try to figure out how to console an inconsolable me that’s a hyperventilating, teary eyed, red faced mess. That was a rough pre-flight night (and morning). Her wisdom has also helped me kick my hesitation habit.

Perhaps a guilty-pleasure guide, but a guide nonetheless that I spent a good deal of December listening to as I drove around and gerbil-ed it on the elliptical is Grant Cardone. I was introduced to his work when I sold cars.  I’ve enjoyed and listened to and/or read each one of these books several times: Sell or Be Sold, If You’re Not First, You’re Last, and The 10X Rule. He has a lot of great ideas about how to hit goals. I also love that he focuses on service and integrity as the route to achieving amazing results in sales.

So What Am I Committing To and Just What Do I Plan to Conquer?

    • Losing the final 16 pounds. At least, that’s what I’m aiming to lose. The only way that number will lessen is if it’s not healthy to do. I had an InBody assessment in September 2017 at the Rochester Athletic Club.

On the day of the assessment, I was told by a trainer that losing 20 pounds might be too much. My weight is up 3 and a half pounds since then, because I did some serious Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s feasting. When I reach 135, I will do another InBody to make sure I’m continuing on a track towards better health. Going over the edge into an unhealthy level of thinness doesn’t interest me.

Last summer after shedding 15 pounds in the spring, I felt confident and had more fun than I would have at a heavier weight. Other people may not feel these limitations and I would never suggest that anyone should. As Amy Poehler might say, “Good for you. Not for me.” I love her book Yes, Please. More to come on my weight loss plan and progress! When I find great ideas that seem to work for me, I’ll share them.

  • My Blog and Business Life. I’ve been really proud of how my blog is coming along. Each month my readership increases. Now, it’s time to do the scary thing: pursue making real money at it. By the end of this year, it’s my goal to be making $6,750 each month as a result of my blogging and my personal JAFRA cosmetics business.
  • Honoring My Schedule. Part of the reason I’m pursuing the blogging and cosmetics business is to maintain control of my schedule. I have a bad habit of saying “Yes” to things without considering what’s really on my agenda for that day. There were so many Ballet Fit classes missed in 2017, because I wasn’t being mindful of my agenda Ballet Fit class is my total happy place, so having to miss it was not okay.

Some more thoughts on what I need to conquer…

Have you ever thought that your life would be so much easier if you got out of your own way? I have. Sometimes I call it being over myself. I’m just so done with putting up with my own whiny BS, so I strive to “get over myself.” Then I do what I fear doing and get on with living the kind of life I want to live.
